Sustainable At Our Core
Brothers has always been rooted in Somerset, where apples are grown, our cider is made, and orchards surround the mill.
The apples, the orchards, the press and the people β it starts here.Β From how we grow and press our apples to how we power our cider mill and package our cans, weβre always working to make our cider production more sustainable.
Our Somerset Orchards
These orchards play an important role in supporting the local environment.
Our 150 acres of cider orchards help absorb carbon from the atmosphere, offsetting around 3,000 tonnes of COβ each year.
Healthy orchards mean healthy apples β and great cider starts with both. Protecting the land around us helps ensure we can continue producing cider for years to come.
Renewable Energy at our cider mill
Making cider takes energy β from pressing apples to packaging cans.Thatβs why we source 100% renewable electricity across our sites. By reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, weβre working to make our cider production more environmentally responsible.
Using renewable energy helps reduce the carbon footprint of our cider while supporting a more sustainable future.
Sustainable packaging
Our cider is now primarily packaged in fully recyclable aluminium cans. Cans are lighter to transport, easier to recycle and reduce the risk of breakage compared with glass bottles. Theyβre also a practical choice for festivals, outdoor events and everyday drinking.
We continue working with our suppliers and partners to reduce packaging where possible while ensuring our cider stays fresh and protected.
Zero WASTE To Landfill
Across our business we operate a zero-to-landfill policy. This means waste from our cider production process is carefully sorted so it can be recycled, reused or recovered rather than sent to landfill.
From apple pomace left after pressing to packaging materials used across our operations, we work hard to ensure as little as possible goes to waste.
Always Improving How We Make Our Cider
Sustainability isnβt a finish line β itβs something we keep working at.
As Brothers grows, weβll continue looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact, improve how we produce and package our cider, and protect the land that makes it possible.
Because great cider doesnβt just depend on good apples.
It depends on a healthy landscape to grow them in.
This isnβt finished. Weβre listening.
At Brothers we acknowledge that there's always more businesses can do to improve their sustainable presence. Please drop us a note below if you have any thoughts on the topic, we would love to get your feedback.
